Merry Christmas! |
|
Merry
Christmas from Axess Systems and here is our
final newsletter of 2007. We'd firstly like
to thank all of you for your kind interest
and support throughout the year and wish you a very Merry
Christmas & a prosperous 2008.
Because we’re all looking forward to a
stocking full of presents, we thought we’d
do some research into just how Santa Claus
manages the mammoth task of distributing the
6 billion or so presents to some 2
billion(ish) children worldwide, and just as
we imagined, there is in fact a network of
Santa Claus’ operating as a warehousing and
distribution collective, exploiting cutting
edge technology to increase efficiency and
minimise costs.

Stock &
Communications - Symbol |
|
There seem to be a few pieces of kit in
favour with a majority of Santas and some
interesting systems in place to ensure
intelligent stock management and delivery,
timely visit orchestration and strong two
way communications between Santas and central servers in Lapland.
Favoured devices for stock control and
communications are Symbol handheld devices
such as the MC35, MC50 and MC70 which all
combine the power of a laptop, mobile phone,
camera and bar code scanner, keeping
equipment to a minimum and efficiency to an
all time high. Santas can scan goods
and barcodes on chimneys to ensure children have
been visited. They can send reports to the
central servers and email and voice-call at will.
If you are not fortunate enough to receive
on of these units this Christmas and would
like to know a little more about them, then

Data Security - Xeratus DuraBook |
|
Unlike HMRC, Santas take data security
very seriously and process children's
personal details and wish lists using thin
client computing. With no working
parts, no information is stored locally and
therefore, sensitive data cannot get into
the hands of criminals.
Together with the harsh environments in
which Santas find themselves,
many have moved towards the Xeratus DuraBook 'Ruggedised' Mobile Thin
Client. The DuraBook is a
shock, drop and spill
resistant laptop which boasts a magnesium
alloy build. It comes with the option
of Windows XP Embedded operating system or
with traditional hard disk and Windows XP
Professional.

computing, please follow

|
Two-Factor Authentication - SafeWord |
Continuing the security
theme, some Santas quite rightly step up
their access security an extra level,
especially when operating in countries
with stringent data protection laws.
SafeWord is a leading two-factor
authentication solution, providing proof
positive user identity for all types of
remote access systems, such as VPNs, Citrix
applications, Outlook Web Access and much
more.
Currently, Axess Systems is offering a
five-user start up pack for just
£99. Follow

A Computer For Every Child -
NComputing |
Well that was the strategy of the
Macedonian government this year, as they
pledged to give every single child in the
country computer access using the NComputing
X300 system.
The X300 consists of a PCI card with three
RJ45 ports, each of which can link to an
Xtenda Multi Box via ethernet
more.
Offering an alternative to the X300 is the NComputing L230, an ethernet based system
that can support up to 30 terminals
operating from just one PC!
So this Christmas, you really can give the
gift of 'computing', without breaking the
bank, or Rudolphs will to live for that
matter, as the units
are only 11cm wide, weighing just 154
grams.

Case Study -
NCH Europe |
With offices, or grottos in
numerous countries, publishing
applications globally can be a challenge.
NCH Europe, a leading manufacturer of
maintenance repair and supply products, has
been using Terminal Services to consolidate
its data and services to one data centre in
the UK, but it was not providing the best
end-user experience, nor proving cost
effective to support.
Axess Systems helped to provide NCH with 2X ApplicationServer Enterprise Version which
allowed NCH to leverage its existing
Terminal Services platform whilst providing
a rich end-user experience. The
corporation used 2X to publish applications
based in the US to user desktops, bringing
greater manageability and performance and
increasing perceived performance by a factor
of 50. Read the full case study
