Welcome to the August edition of the Axess Systems newsletter.  Many of you will be aware that this month, as well as being nearly as wet as July, has been a month of major IT buy-outs.

Firstly, HP announced that it had secured a buy-out of smaller rival Neoware, leveraging HP into the Thin Client global leader seat.  Then, no sooner had the dust settled, this week, Citrix announced that it was acquiring leading virtualisation developer, XenSource, to form a new ‘super division’ to develop market-leading solutions to rival VMWare.

In this dynamic environment, here at Axess Systems, we roll with the changes and stay focussed on our key objective, which is to provide our customers with the best impartial advice, regardless of brand, to supply exactly the right product, or solution for them.

We hope you find this months newsletter useful and would welcome any suggestions or comments sent to info@axesssystems.co.uk

This week, virtualisation pioneer, XenSource, announced to it’s customers that it has agreed to a deal that will see it become one of the increasing number of Citrix acquisitions some time in the last quarter of this year.

With the increasing market enthusiasm and energy focussed towards virtualisation, it is clear that Citrix sought specialist core competencies in this arena.  XenSource has demonstrated pioneering work in virtualisation since its inception as an open source project at Cambridge University in 2002 and has built up over 600 commercial customers..

XenSource will become the centre of a new division within Citrix, focussed on virtualisation and management solutions, providing the market with most probably the best virtualisation for Windows customers.  Although XenSource will officially be part of the enormous Citrix portfolio that commands $1.6B in annual revenue, XenSource is negotiating independent oversight of the Xen project, to ensure a lack of strategic drift in its development, something that has allowed its innovative progression to this date.

XenSource will expand its efforts in server virtualisation and continue extensions to its XenSource v4 product line, something the company believes will make them extremely competitive against rivals such as VMWare.  With the financial and marketing capabilities of its new parent, together they will provide market leading virtualisation solutions from the datacentre to the desktop.
