Back in 2018, mainstream support for Windows Server 2012 R2 was removed, in line with Microsoft’s Fixed Lifecycle Policy.
An additional 5-year period of extended support followed, providing only security and reliability updates, and bug fixes.
But with 2023 around the corner, it won’t be long before support is totally removed.
So if you’re still running Windows Server 2012 R2, it’s crucial that you make plans before the cut-off on the 10th October 2023.
The answer is simple… time is running out.
After the 10th October 2023, Windows Server 2012 R2 will stop receiving critical patches and updates.
Leaving you exposed to cyberattacks, and at an increased risk of non-compliance.
Not to mention that as technologies inevitably move away from supporting Windows Server 2012 R2, it won’t be possible to upgrade to the latest version of many apps.
Preventing innovation within your environment, and potentially holding your organisation back.
To continue securely with Windows Server 2012 R2 you’d have to pay a premium for Extended Security Updates. However, this typically carries an extortionate price tag.
For this reason, we suggest that you do one of the following instead:
Microsoft are offering Windows Server 2012 R2 Extended Security Updates for three more years at no additional cost to customers who migrate to Azure.
You can also benefit from Azure Hybrid Benefit, which helps you save costs by allowing the use of your existing on-premises Windows Server Licenses on the cloud with no additional cost.
It is also worth noting that Microsoft are now offering Windows Server subscriptions through their Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) programme.
Formerly with windows, you had to buy perpetual licenses, meaning large upfront costs.
But by subscribing, you can save as much as 20%.
And you’ll be able to upgrade your version of Windows Server at no additional cost as new versions are released.
You can upgrade your current operating system to Windows Server 2019. And even try Windows Server 2022.
Here at Axess Systems, we can help to advise you on the best approach for your organisation.
Our free Automated Insight Report (AIR) provides a detailed audit of all operating systems in your environment.
This will help to identify areas of non-compliance, and compare the cost of migrating to Azure Vs your current solution.
It will also allow us to present illustrative pricing for multi-cloud consumption, i.e. Azure, Google, AWS etc.
The great thing about taking on this assessment is that your data will be interpreted by our consultants, who will provide an actionable report with their findings.
So you’ll be able to make a decision based on facts rather than pure instinct.
Time is running out, so why not book your Automated Insight Report now so you’re not panicking when the deadline rolls around?
